E/M/S requests all important and relevant papers and documents from the seller, the dealer or the broker. The authorized expert on site will check their condition and record whether they were available for inspection in the original or only as a copy. The images taken of these documents are presented to a panel of trained experts, who then inspect and evaluate them in accordance with the guidelines of the BPC® Boat's-Paper-Check.
These experts deal with the question of the ownership chain, the classification, approval and registration of the boat / yacht as well as the present VAT certificate for the EU. E/M/S also makes use of international experts and specialist lawyers in the field of ship registration. Different specifications and treatment methods for boats and yachts in different European countries require a trained eye. Ignorance and good faith can quickly become a disaster for you. In particular the proof for the sales tax paid in a member state of the European Union must be clear and unambiguous. Frequently used declarations in sales contracts, such as "The seller assures that he or a previous owner has paid customs duties and statutory value added tax on the boat and equipment on first purchase or import into an EU member state". read well and understandably, but do not have sufficient legal significance as proof of VAT.
You will find the collected results in a separate part of our 1st Boat-Check.

Often even additionally commissioned work can take place in the time window of the 1st Boat Check. If you commission the work at the same time, you could save yourself separate costs for the expert's arrival and departure.
